Hi everyone. We have a team considering writing an amicus brief for a case in the 11th Circuit (Alabama, Florida, or Georgia) that pertains to the First Amendment rights of an immigrant activist who was likely detained due to his criticism of US immigration policy (similar to the Ravi Ragbir matter from two years ago). We were only recently contacted by the client organizations.

The proposed brief is now two months overdue, based on the date of the filing of the underlying brief the clients want to support. We were hoping to get a feel from a local appellate practitioner in the 11th Cir. as to whether the 11th Cir. typically allows amicus briefs to be filed at this late date.

We also are looking for local counsel.

Does anyone have anyone in their appellate or litigation practices who might be interested in helping out our team?

Thanks,

Jackie
