All, our LA office has an existing pro bono client who is a disabled person suffering from a traumatic brain injury, who may be evicted by her landlord in the next few days.  We have a conflict issue on this particular matter and cannot take her case. Would any of you be able to do so? Here are some additional details,  If you are interested please email me at [email protected]
The client is in her 40’s. She was in a traffic accident about 8 years ago and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Before the accident she was heading to med school, and now she does not fully function. She cannot work and is on disability.  She was late on rent due to some medical issues. She is on rent control so the landlord, who wants to redevelop the building, served her with a 3 day notice. She contacted them to ask for an accommodation under the ADA.  She just wanted to pay late once. They strung her along and then filed a UD case. She was represented by Bet Tzedek in that case. She missed the trial (again, brain injury) and subsequently lost. BT’s representation was only through trial. We need someone to move for a stay of the execution and to bring post-trial motions and potentially an appeal. (We were planning to assist with this and then identified the conflict issue).
